TENTH ANNUAL WRITING AND POSTER CONTEST

ENTRY DEADLINE:  All entries must be received by February 5, 2016.

THEME:   “STEAM – THE NEXT GENERATION!”

 

STEAM is a movement to place art and design at the center of STEM education.  Skills like creativity, confidence, problem solving, collaboration, dedication, and accountability are vital to the success of a 21st century learner.  By including art in project based learning, it provides an opportunity for artists and designers to drive innovation.

REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFYING STUDENTS ARE ASKED TO SUBMIT AN ESSAY WITH AN ACCOMPANYING POSTER THAT BEST ILLUSTRATES THE STEAM CONCEPT.

*All submissions must include the entry form below.

*Do not include binders, cover sheets, title pages, or write

  your name on your essay or artwork.  (Staple the entry    

  form below to the back of your essay.)

CATEGORY I: (Grades K-2)

*You must be a K, 1st, or 2nd grade student.

*Submit an 8 ½ x 11 inch poster with your 10-50 word essay

  related to this year’s theme (above).

 

CATEGORY II:  (Grades 3-5)

*You must be a 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade student.

*Submit an 8 ½ x 11 inch poster with your 150-300 word

  essay related to this year’s theme (above).

 

CATEGORY III:  (Grades 6-8)

*You must be a 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student.

*Submit an 8 ½ x 11 inch poster with your 200-300 word

  essay related to this year’s theme (above).

 

CATEGORY IV:  (Grades 9– 12)

*You must be a 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grader.

*Submit an 8 ½ x 11 inch poster with your 300-400 word essay related to this year’s theme (above).

 

JUDGING CRITERIA:

*Accuracy of information, content and creativity

*Spelling and Grammar

*Fulfilling minimum requirements

*A 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner will be selected from

  each category.

 

ALL 1ST PLACE WINNERS WILL RECEIVE:

*$100 Barnes and Nobel gift certificate

*Certificate of Achievement

*Recognition in the GAPCAP Newsletter

*Invitation to the GAPCAP recognition dinner

*Media release to your local paper and school

 

ALL 2ND PLACE WINNERS WILL RECEIVE:

*$50 Barnes and Nobel gift certificate

*Certificate of Achievement

*Recognition in the GAPCAP Newsletter

*Invitation to the GAPCAP recognition dinner

*Media release to your local paper and school

 

ALL 3RD PLACE WINNERS WILL RECEIVE:

*$25 Barnes and Nobel gift certificate

*Certificate of Achievement

*Recognition in the GAPCAP Newsletter

*Invitation to the GAP recognition dinner

*Media release to your local paper and school
